About The Position

Operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, lowboys, motor graders, heavy loaders, water truck, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers and tractors. Equipment is used to excavate, load or move dirt, gravel or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans. Must be able to grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years work experience operating heavy equipment.
• Minimum of 3 years work experience operating cranes.
• Ability to use and knowledge of all tools and equipment that are used by the craft.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
• Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
• Ability to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
• Ability to trouble shoot and repair most complex problems.
• Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
• Must have the ability to operate numerous equipment for the trade i.e. forklifts, scissor/man lifts, bobcat backhoe, cranes, loader, scrapers, grader, water truck, etc.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
• Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Must be capable of lifting 75 lbs. unassisted.
• Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
• Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
• Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
• Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
• Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.
• Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable.
• Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability.
• Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
• Must have a demonstrated ability to follow instructions and company policy.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
• Must be a current SMS employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
