About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator operates mobile equipment and performs skilled work in support of City maintenance operations. The role involves operating light to heavy mobile equipment, performing minor equipment maintenance, supporting the maintenance of City facilities and areas, and completing minor administrative tasks. Work is performed under general supervision, with some procedures provided and discretion over how and when to complete tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to operate various equipment with minimal instruction.
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
Obtain a Class A CDL permit within 3 months of hire.
Obtain a Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.
Special skills or additional equipment certification may be required.

Responsibilities

Operate mobile equipment to transport materials, tools, equipment, and personnel to job sites and remove debris or other materials in support of plant operations, maintenance, and infrastructure repair.
Operate specialized mobile equipment for City operations, including utilities construction and repair, concrete laying, and other specialized work.
Monitor trucks, tractors, tools, and equipment to ensure proper operation; report major malfunctions and service equipment as needed.
Operate hand and power tools and equipment for maintenance tasks, including weed cutting, debris removal, grass cutting, digging or filling, and operating portable pumps.
Inspect equipment, perform minor maintenance, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.
Troubleshoot and repair sprayfield infrastructure and associated facilities.
Read and interpret plans and drawings to perform job tasks.
Complete minor administrative tasks, including job-related logs and forms, answering phones, and providing information.
Perform simple clerical tasks and maintain hauling manifests.
Perform other assigned duties as needed and requested.
