About The Position
Performs specialized skilled work operating motorized light to heavy maintenance and construction equipment for utility construction and maintenance projects. The role involves operating assigned equipment as a predominant task, with assignments generally provided as specific orders and work inspected during progress and upon completion. Equipment may include backhoes, vacuum trucks, front-end loaders, ditching machines, excavators, pipe saws, jackhammers, boom trucks, trenchers, tapping machines, dump trucks, and cranes. The operator also assists with utility line installation and repair, equipment maintenance, and related work.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Some basic computer skills.
- Some customer service experience.
- Experience using basic hand tools.
Nice To Haves
- At least five years of experience operating assigned equipment is preferred.
- CDL Class B with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements is preferred; it must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate assigned equipment for utility construction and maintenance projects.
- Operate equipment to excavate trenches and ditches for line and service installation and repair.
- Open trenches for lines, services, fire services and hydrants, manholes, and wet wells; place pipe fittings; backfill and level trenches; and excavate as needed.
- Assist with connecting and repairing utility lines and backfilling trenches after repairs.
- Assist with loading and unloading pipes at work sites.
- Assist the Maintenance Technician when not operating equipment.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Perform related work as required or assigned.
