About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil. The operator inspects equipment before and after use, monitors materials and equipment condition, performs minor equipment servicing, documents equipment condition, and follows required safety procedures. The role also includes keeping equipment and the shop clean and ready for use, reporting repair needs, and completing other job-related duties as assigned.

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders in accordance with applicable safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean equipment tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment servicing, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, and report needed repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and equipment is stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
