About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment used in landfill operations. The role supports landfill airspace maintenance, waste placement, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The operator may also assist with site housekeeping and litter control and work with landfill operators, drivers, mechanics, and management to support efficient operations. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of safe equipment operating practices.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
Ability to work on uneven terrain and around moving equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and outdoor environments.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a landfill, construction, mining, excavation, or related environment.

Responsibilities

Operate compactors, dozers, excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, and articulated trucks.
Spread, compact, and cover waste in accordance with landfill operating procedures.
Construct and maintain landfill roads, drainage systems, and working faces.
Inspect equipment before and after use for maintenance or safety concerns.
Complete daily equipment inspection reports and promptly communicate repair needs.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning.
Comply with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
Assist with site housekeeping and litter control efforts.
Collaborate with landfill operators, drivers, mechanics, and management to ensure efficient operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
