Heavy Equipment Operator w/ CDL (NorthWest) - JKL Associates
About The Position
The Heavy Equipment Operator safely and efficiently operates assigned equipment to install fiber-optic, copper, coaxial, and single- and three-phase power cable, and may work on sewer or water facilities. The role supports all aspects of field construction, operating both smaller and larger heavy equipment and performing basic labor as needed. The operator excavates around existing utilities, maintains equipment, hauls equipment to job sites, and helps train and mentor team members. The position is 100% field-based and requires working outdoors in all types of weather, with travel and extended periods away from home.
Requirements
- Demonstrated field experience with digging operations around utilities in rural and urban areas.
- Experience operating utility construction equipment, including backhoes, mini excavators, cable plows, or track hoes.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings.
Nice To Haves
- Class A CDL.
- Knowledge of utility construction procedures and print reading.
- Familiarity with procedures, tools, and equipment used to install underground utilities safely and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Operate utility construction equipment such as backhoes, mini excavators, cable plows, and track hoes.
- Perform digging operations in rural and urban areas, including excavation around existing utilities.
- Carry out daily maintenance on construction equipment and maintain hand tools.
- Train and assist coworkers who are learning to operate equipment.
- Perform routine labor such as potholing, equipment setup, conduit, duct, and cable placement, and setting pedestals.
- Drive a tow vehicle while hauling equipment to and around job sites.
- Assist with all aspects of construction work, including basic labor duties.
- Follow company and manufacturer procedures and industry safety standards, and attend mandatory safety meetings.
