About The Position

Binderholz is seeking a skilled, safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to support production and yard operations by maintaining the steady, efficient flow of logs and finished lumber through the mill. The role reports to the Log Yard Heavy Equipment Senior Operator. The operator uses heavy machinery to load, unload, stage, and organize materials; assists with saw line infeed when production requires; and performs equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and cleaning. The position works Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM.

Requirements

Experience safely operating heavy industrial machinery, such as log loaders, large forklifts, front-end loaders, or cranes.
Ability to perform basic pre-shift inspections, identify signs of mechanical wear, and troubleshoot minor issues.
Ability to use two-way radios and hand signals clearly to coordinate with ground crews, millwrights, and supervisors.
Ability to perform job functions that involve walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Excellent hand-eye coordination.
Ability to stand or walk for long periods and frequently lift, bend, and handle heavy materials.
Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment and in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in lumber yard operations, forestry, or heavy manufacturing is highly preferred.
Strong focus on safety in hazardous, fast-paced environments.
Strong communication skills to coordinate with millwrights, sorters, and other crew members.
Precision in stacking, organizing, and loading heavy timber products without damaging inventory.
Proactive interest in cross-training on multiple machine types and transitioning between equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

Follow all safety and work procedures.
Load and unload materials safely and efficiently using heavy machinery.
Use a 988k Caterpillar for infeed operations, including unloading log trucks and staging material on the infeed deck or in storage areas.
Use a Liebherr and High Lift for outfeed operations, unloading logs from sorted bins into their corresponding inventory locations.
Assist with loading the saw line infeed when production requires it.
Clean industrial equipment and workstations.
Perform daily inspections of mobile equipment and complete required forms.
Perform general equipment maintenance.
Carry out other duties as assigned.
