About The Position

Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to motor grader, tracked excavator and backhoe used in the general maintenance and repair of streets. Assists in training and supervising other equipment operators. Some basic data entry for asset management purposes. Responds to snow and ice storms and other severe weather events. Limited supervisory responsibilities. No budgetary responsibility.

Requirements

Skills in operating heavy equipment.
Knowledge of general street maintenance and construction procedures.
Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.
Valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement required.
Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and topographical plans.
Required to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Three to five years of prior experience in the maintenance and repair of streets required.
Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

Ability to shoot grades and level ground to established grades preferred.

Responsibilities

Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to motor grader, tracked excavator, backhoe, sheep foot, jet rod, loader and dump truck in the maintenance and repair of streets.
Assists in directing and supervising other equipment operators in effective and safe operation of assigned heavy equipment.
Trains other employees in the safe and effective operation of machinery and equipment as needed.
Cleans and performs general maintenance on assigned equipment.
Tracks of time and materials in Cartograph.
Serves as crew leader in absence of foreman.
