About The Position

Under general direction of the Division Supervisor, performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work and operates the largest and most complex equipment in the City’s fleet in the construction, maintenance, and replacement-related tasks in the Public Works departments. It is differentiated from the Truck Driver classification by the increased diversity, complexity of assignments, and type of equipment operated on a consistent basis.

Requirements

Seven (7) years of experience operating medium-size to heavy equipment.
Must possess a high school diploma.
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Nice To Haves

An equivalent combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and other characteristics may be substituted for the above qualifications.
May be required to secure certifications as determined by area of assignment.

Responsibilities

Operates a variety of medium and heavy equipment.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
Refers needed repairs to the supervisor.
Maintains equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
Performs minor maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment as aid to operation.
May be responsible for contacting Utility Companies to determine location of gas, telephone, power, water and sewer lines sources prior to excavation.
May act as crew leader in the absence of the lead worker or supervisor.
Performs a variety of manual labor duties at construction sites.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May operate sewer truck, backhoe, loader, crane, TV inspection router and other equipment used in the excavation, construction and maintenance of sewer lines, system and facilities.
