About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects equipment before and after use, monitors waste for unacceptable materials, and keeps equipment operational and the work area clean. The role also includes documenting equipment condition and minor servicing, reporting repairs, and following company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• At least two years of prior related experience operating heavy equipment.
• At least one year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach toward customers and coworkers.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to adhere to a work schedule and follow through on challenges as they arise.
• Ability to follow company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and motivation to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment before and after operation according to company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, following applicable safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition, clean tracks or wheels as needed, and help minimize downtime.
• Perform and document minor equipment service; refer more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow required safety policies and procedures.
• Clean, service, and store the shop at the end of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
