About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects and monitors equipment, performs minor service, reports repair needs, monitors waste for unacceptable materials, and follows company safety procedures.

Requirements

Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach.
Good time management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
Ability to adhere to a work schedule and follow through on challenges.
Ability to follow company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
Pride in work and motivation to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections according to company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders while following proper safety standards.
Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
Monitor equipment condition to ensure it is operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
Follow required safety policies and procedures.
Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
