About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects and maintains equipment, monitors waste for unacceptable materials, documents equipment condition and minor service, and follows company safety procedures.

Requirements

Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach toward customers and coworkers.
Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
Ability to follow through, adhere to a work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
Ability to follow company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
Pride in work and commitment to achieving goals.

Responsibilities

Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with company policy, including ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders using proper safety standards.
Monitor waste continuously for evidence of unacceptable materials.
Monitor equipment condition to keep it operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, and report needed repairs to a supervisor.
Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
