About The Position

Nasittuq is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to work at remote Long Range Radar Sites located in Brevoort Island, NU (BAF-3) and/or Cape Dyer, NU (DYE-MAIN). This is a full-time position with a unique 6-weeks-on, 6-weeks-off rotation, offering a balance between meaningful work and personal time. The role involves maintaining roads, grounds, and gravel surfaces, safely operating various heavy equipment, performing daily inspections, assisting with equipment maintenance, and responding to site emergencies. Priority consideration will be given to qualified Inuit beneficiaries.

Requirements

  • Licensed Heavy Equipment Operator with Air Brake Certification (DZ Licence).
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence.
  • Operators of GFE Mobile Support Equipment (MSE) must complete a Safe Backing Course.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, dozers, dump trucks, and similar equipment in a safe manner.
  • Experience or training operating vehicles with attached trailers is required.
  • Knowledge of truck and equipment safety, road construction and maintenance techniques, equipment maintenance and storage, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment including front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers, and other mobile support equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, time-management, and documentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to travel as part of a small team to adjacent sites to perform Heavy Equipment Operator functions.
  • Obtaining and maintaining an Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance or Secret Level Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy equipment operation, road and runway maintenance, construction equipment operation, mobile support equipment maintenance, equipment servicing, snow removal, airport operations support, or related industrial and remote-site positions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain roads, grounds, and gravel surfaces to ensure safe route passage.
  • Safely operate standard construction and heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, dozers, graders, trucks, dump trucks, and forklifts to maintain roads, runways, and grounds.
  • Perform daily inspections and operational checks of vehicles and equipment prior to use.
  • Assist with Mobile Support Equipment (MSE) maintenance and repairs and document maintenance activities.
  • Clean vehicles, perform fuel dips and fuel transfers, and assist with sealift material delivery.
  • Load and unload helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Respond to site preservation and environmental emergencies.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and provide support with Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) and other site operations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of site operations.
