About The Position

This role operates all types of heavy equipment, including crawler tractors, front-end loaders, back-hoes, hydraulic excavators, motor graders, crane trucks, and street sweepers with a high degree of skill and proficiency. The position works under the direction of the Zone Supervisor (Heavy Equipment) and leads and provides guidance to assigned sweeper crews during various shifts within the city limits. Responsibilities include instructing sweeper operators on work procedures, proper equipment use, and maintenance, submitting work orders and supply requests, and preparing various reports such as on-the-job injuries, property damage, and required monthly reports for the Manager. The role also involves interpreting city maps to locate work sites, assisting sweeper operators, supporting special events sweeping when needed, maintaining truck equipment, fluids, and fuels, and utilizing a mobile radio for communication.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all types of heavy equipment, including crawler tractor, front-end loader, back-hoe, hydraulic excavator motor grader, crane truck, and street sweeper with a high degree of skill and proficiency.
  • Leads and provides guidance to assigned sweeper crews during various shifts within the city limits.
  • Instructs assigned sweeper operators on work procedures, proper use of equipment, and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Submits work orders and supply requests.
  • Prepares various reports including, on-the-job injuries, property damage, and required monthly reports which are submitted to the Manager.
  • Interprets city maps to find the location of work sites and assists sweeper operators in finding locations.
  • Assists in special events sweeping, when needed.
  • Maintains truck equipment, fluids, and fuels trucks.
  • Utilizes mobile radio to communicate with supervisors and other workers.
