Heavy Equipment Operator II - Solid Waste

About The Position

Responsible for safe and effective heavy equipment operations. This role involves operating heavy complex motorized equipment over 100,000 pounds, as well as common and precision power and hand tools to perform skilled duties to complete site maintenance. The operator will inspect and check equipment before and after use, perform minor maintenance, and report issues to leadership. A key responsibility is ensuring site compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations. The role also includes assisting and responding to customer issues, notifying leadership if concerns cannot be resolved, and assisting in training new crewmembers.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year experience in heavy equipment operator, or related field, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of basic equipment and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per to department/division.
• Skill in identifying moderate problems and implement solutions.
• Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities.
• Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
• Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
• Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
• Must pass a physical examination.
• Must have certificate of completion from Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for the Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management course or the ability to complete and obtain the certificate within one (1) year of employment.
