About The Position

Performs skilled work in the operation of heavy construction equipment. This is a skilled position, working under the general direction of the Foreman.

Requirements

  • High school graduate / GED supplemented by a minimum of five years of working experience operating various types heavy equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation and capabilities of various types of heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles and maintenance needs of various types of heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of highway safety rules and regulations necessary to operate various types heavy construction equipment along active roadways.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to move heavy objects and endure strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Florida Class A or B commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker and/or hazmat and tanker endorsements is preferred.
  • Holders of a Class A or B CDL are eligible for incentive pay based on the CDL license classification and endorsements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators (large and small) for the use of cleaning/regrading drainage swales, installing driveway cross-drain pipe, installing concrete pipe under roadways, and other various activities.
  • Operates graders, dozers, excavators, loaders, boom, mowers grapple trucks, rollers, sweepers, and other various types of heavy equipment.
  • Hand excavates areas where existing utilities have been located to ensure the protection of the existing utility (water lines, sewer lines, cable, phone, gas, electric, and others) during the execution of the assigned task.
