About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of heavy equipment. The role involves performing site maintenance using complex motorized equipment over 100,000 pounds, as well as common and precision power and hand tools. The operator will also be responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, assisting customers, and training new crew members. This job description is not exhaustive and duties may change.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience in heavy equipment operation, or related field, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic equipment and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per to department/division.
  • Skill in identifying moderate problems and implement solutions.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities.
  • Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must have certificate of completion from Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for the Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management course or the ability to complete and obtain the certificate within one (1) year of employment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
  • Lifting no more than 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to climb steep grade greater than 33%.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy complex motorized equipment over 100,000 pounds, as well as common and precision power and hand tools to perform skilled duties to complete site maintenance.
  • Inspect and check equipment before and after use.
  • Perform minor maintenance activities.
  • Report equipment issues and problems to leadership immediately.
  • Ensure site is compliant with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations.
  • Assist and respond to customer issues; notify leadership immediately if unable to resolve concerns.
  • Assist in training new crewmembers.
