About The Position

KH Properties is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator / Construction Carpenter to join their Construction team. This role is ideal for a hands-on construction professional who is equally comfortable operating equipment and performing general construction work in support of multifamily renovation projects. The successful candidate will spend time operating equipment such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes, mini excavators, and other site equipment while also assisting with carpentry, demolition, grading, drainage, site preparation, and general construction activities as project needs require. This is a working position - not a supervisory role. KH Properties is looking for a dependable team member who takes pride in safe equipment operations, quality workmanship, and contributing to a productive jobsite.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, site work, utility work, land clearing, excavation, or related industries.
  • Hands-on construction experience.
  • Demonstrated experience operating skid steers, excavators, mini excavators, backhoes, loaders, or similar equipment.
  • Comfortable working from plans, scopes, and direction without needing to lead others.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and steady in performance.
  • Safety-minded with a strong understanding of proper jobsite practices.
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to travel between properties within the Jackson metropolitan area.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to get to and from job sites consistently.
  • Physically able to perform job duties, including lifting up to 80 lbs and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to learn and use company programs and apps on provided smart devices.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate skid steers, mini excavators, excavators, backhoes, loaders, compactors, and other site equipment.
  • Perform grading, trenching, drainage work, site preparation, demolition, material handling, and land clearing activities.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Assist with excavation for utilities, foundations, and site improvements.
  • Work closely with spotters and crew members to maintain safe jobsite operations.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials throughout the project site.
  • Perform hands-on construction tasks including demolition, site preparation, grading, drainage improvements, excavation support, framing, drywall, finish carpentry, and general renovation work.
  • Execute work with precision and consistency, following established plans, scopes, and quality standards.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, saws, and measurement equipment.
  • Complete assigned tasks independently while collaborating with the broader construction crew.
  • Maintain clean, organized job sites and ensure tools and equipment are kept in good working condition.
  • Support other crews or projects as needed based on schedule and workload.
  • Follow safety protocols at all times and contribute to a jobsite culture focused on doing things right.
