About The Position

Boart Longyear is hiring for Shop & Field Mechanic positions which involve heavy overtime and travel to jobsites for hitch-work (14 days on, 7 days off), with shop-work and general reporting base out of our Glendale, AZ corporate facilities. In this position you will gain valuable knowledge of our fleet of drill rigs and support equipment. Time will be spent both traveling to jobsites on 14-day hitches, and in the workshop as required. Duties in the workshop will include training, equipment repairs and overhauls. Time spent in the field will be for routine maintenance on equipment and emergency breakdown repairs at various locations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanic experience required, with established previous job tenure preferred.
  • Experience with electrical and hydraulic schematics required.
  • Basic diesel engine and fuel system diagnostic experience.
  • Able to work minimum 50 + hrs per week with scheduled overtime.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds frequently.
  • Pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to attain a CDL.
  • Must be able to be MSHA/OSHA certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical certification desired.
  • Some welding and fabrication experience recommended.
  • Hydraulic experience, pumps manifolds cylinder repairs recommended.
  • Electrical experience or certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of high-pressure air systems, i.e. screw compressors and boosters is a plus.
  • Knowledge of duplex and triplex mud pumps is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of duties designed to service, repair and maintain Boart Longyear’s Fleet of drill rigs and support equipment.
  • Work on electric powered hydraulic systems, diesel powered hydraulic systems and machinery as well as high pressure pneumatic systems.
  • Diagnose hydraulic problems in equipment and perform quick turnaround to get these rigs back in operation.
  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Lift arms above shoulder level to install and remove broken or worn-out components.
  • Use hand and power tools and manipulate these tools in areas of limited space.
  • Work safely.
  • Travel for 14-day shifts (with 7 days off) and work long days in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work well with others and have a positive attitude.
  • Communicate with supervisor, driller and safety personnel.
  • Work with little or no supervision.
