Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About The Position
This role is responsible for conducting proper inspections and preventative maintenance on all heavy equipment assigned to the facility. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic corrects vehicle deficiencies, makes necessary repairs and adjustments, and updates tracking systems as required. The job requires the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting. Additionally, the role involves maintaining vehicle records by annotating services and repairs, keeping shop equipment operating, containing costs by using warranty and evaluating service/parts options, and managing inventory. The mechanic will also update job knowledge through educational opportunities and publications, and enhance the maintenance department's reputation by taking ownership of tasks and exploring value-adding opportunities. Escalating issues to the Maintenance Manager is also a responsibility, along with other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in construction or manufacturing desired but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Adequate communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and team members.
- Powered industrial truck certification, other industrial truck certifications as required.
- Demonstrated competency with required tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Conducting proper inspections and preventative maintenance on all heavy equipment assigned to the facility.
- Correcting vehicle deficiencies, making necessary repairs and adjustments.
- Updating tracking systems as required.
- Determining vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Keeping equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
- Correcting vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
- Verifying vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complying with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintaining vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Maintaining vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Keeping shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Containing costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeping supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhancing maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Escalating issues to the Maintenance Manager as needed.
- Performing other related duties as required.
