Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives on keeping heavy equipment running at peak performance? We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Representative I / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to become a key player on our Customer Support Team. In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert for maintaining and repairing Bergkamp’s industry-leading Pavement Preservation Equipment. Your work will directly impact our customers by ensuring their machines operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. You’ll collaborate with a team of experienced mechanics to diagnose issues, develop smart repair strategies, and deliver top-notch service—both in our shop and occasionally on-site with customers. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent as a foundation for your technical skills.
  • 3–5 years of experience in automotive mechanics, welding, electrical work, or a related field.
  • Confidence using mechanic tools (both electric and pneumatic) and operating a forklift.
  • The ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Strong technical writing skills to document work clearly and accurately.
  • A natural problem-solver who can think critically and adapt to new challenges.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally, including some weekends (up to 25% of the time).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with customers, coworkers, and leadership.
  • A customer-first mindset, with professionalism and interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships.
  • Solid math skills, including working with fractions, decimals, percentages, and basic calculations.
  • The ability to follow instructions in various formats—written, spoken, or diagrammed—and apply common sense to get the job done.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to doing things right the first time.
  • Comfort using computers and software, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems, to manage service orders, RMAs, and transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing and repairing pavement preservation equipment in both shop and field settings and providing remote support when needed.
  • Training customers and team members on equipment operation, maintenance, and repair—both during start-ups and ongoing support.
  • Leading equipment start-ups and delivering hands-on training to crews and fleet service teams.
  • Collaborating with engineering and product teams by sharing field insights to improve equipment design and performance.
  • Supporting the sales team by answering technical questions and helping customers understand equipment capabilities.
  • Conducting final inspections of equipment before it leaves production to ensure quality and readiness.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workspace, following all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Staying current with industry knowledge through training, publications, and professional development.
  • Contributing to a strong team culture by actively participating in meetings and sharing ideas.
