About The Position

Harsco Environmental is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join their maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of heavy equipment including CAT 990 loaders, large off-road trucks, pot carriers, cranes, excavators, and other large material handling machinery. Primary responsibility will be to support maintenance activities in the shop.

Requirements

  • College or classroom training in Heavy Equipment, Truck and Coach, or Farm Equipment
  • Completion of a mechanic apprenticeship
  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair
  • Diesel fuel injection systems
  • Exhaust and cooling systems
  • Electrical and air conditioning systems
  • Lubrication systems
  • Mechanical and hydraulic transmissions
  • Power take-offs, brake systems, suspension and steering
  • Off-road tires and wheels, differentials
  • Cable and hydraulic-operated attachments
  • Winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators
  • Engine control systems

Nice To Haves

  • 421A Heavy Equipment Technician license
  • Experience in steel mills, quarries, mines, oil sands, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments
  • Knowledge and experience with diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems and/or electronics
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Installation and alignment of engines and machinery

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures/issues.
  • Perform services such as changing of fluids and filters.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Assist in general site-related maintenance activities.
  • Repair large, off-road, construction-type equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Complete diagnostics, troubleshoot and complete repairs to heavy off-road equipment such as, loaders, material handlers, trucks, and cranes.
  • Understand technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repairs and modifications according to OEM specifications and procedures.
