About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and diagnosis of equipment at the terminal. To safely perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities to facility assets such as but not limited to repairing; cranes, excavators, dozers, forklifts, tele-handlers, air compressors, light towers, front wheel loaders, UTV’s, trucks ½ ton and up.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 10+ years of experience and/or certifications.
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple fronts simultaneously.
  • Specialized training and certifications that must be completed and maintained.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently establish priorities.
  • Must be able to read and interpret parts manuals, drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Common knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out, Safety Data Sheets and Computerized maintenance management Systems.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license.
  • Must pass all pre-employment testing including a drug test, physical and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled.
  • Inspect and audit equipment usage and checklists periodically for issues.
  • Generate parts requisitions for repairs.
  • Corrects equipment deficiencies with proper diagnosing techniques.
  • Provides input on preventing inadvertent equipment breakdowns.
  • Removal of parts, major assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
  • Work system such as, power and drive trains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, steering, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Completes shop operations by making adjustments, and alignments to items such as but not limited to bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, oil systems, contro linkages, clutches, brakes, and traction units.
  • Verifies equipment performance by conducting test drives and making adjustments to controls and systems.
  • Complies with equipment requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains equipment records by annotating services and repairs on work orders.
  • Must participate in all Safety and Health Training requirements as scheduled.
  • A willingness to further experience by supervisor training.
  • Assists in other areas of business as needed.
  • Attends and participates in all daily, weekly/monthly toolbox meetings, safety meetings and/or stand-down's.
  • Other duties as assigned.
