About The Position

TruGreen Metal is a mobile scrap metal recycling company that brings the recycling facility to the customer. Since 2015, TruGreen has served thousands of customers across Western Canada and recycled millions of pounds of steel products. This full-time position is based out of the shop in Olds, Alberta, and reports to the Shop Foreman. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for equipment repair and maintenance, ensuring machinery operates efficiently and safely, and assisting in training junior staff. A thorough mechanical knowledge and experience in maintaining and repairing various types of heavy machinery and equipment, including industrial equipment, electrical systems, and the ability to read schematics, are required.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck & Transport Mechanic (Red Seal preferred).
  • Experience with on-road and off-road equipment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in heavy equipment repair.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using power tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience operating forklifts and other heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics for electrical systems, and diagnostic data.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • An uplifting personality with a go-getter attitude.
  • Physically fit – heavy lifting is required.
  • Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successfully complete a background check.
  • Field positions require a clean driver’s abstract, criminal record check, and drug and alcohol testing to comply with regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Field service, simple welding & fabricating experience is considered as asset.
  • Familiarity with crane operations and safety protocols.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and farm machinery repair techniques.
  • Past experience leading a team considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including company vehicles, semi trucks, skid steers, excavators and other equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble machinery components as needed for repairs.
  • Interpret schematics to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems.
  • Utilize power tools effectively to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards while working on industrial equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist in training junior staff to ensure the fleet runs smoothly.
