About The Position

Sierra Ready Mix is seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment used in ready-mix and aggregate operations. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in working with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues efficiently
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Davie, Cummins Insite, Cat ET, or similar) preferred
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • Must have own basic set of tools
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or emergency repairs
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures and weather conditions
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing on equipment
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Davie, Cummins Insite, Cat ET, or similar)
  • Welding and fabrication experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including loaders, mixers, skid steers, manlifts, and other construction/aggregate equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate testing equipment and software
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and document findings accurately
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other critical components
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment meets company and regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate service records, including labor, parts, and repair notes
  • Order and track parts and materials needed for repairs
  • Support shop organization and maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment
  • Assist other mechanics and collaborate with operations teams as needed
  • Perform field service repairs when required
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
