This position is responsible for moving equipment, parts, machinery, etc. at our vast, 63-acre facility. The role involves inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition. Mechanics will use hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, or precision instruments, as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, or jacks and hoists. Adjusting brakes and reassembling equipment, examining and adjusting protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices are also key duties. The position requires performing routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance is essential. Additionally, knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions is required. Attendance is an essential function of the job, as is the ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.
