The Colorado Department of Transportation has a vacancy for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic that is based out of our equipment shop in Craig. This Journey level Equipment Mechanic position inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots, modifies, and repairs light and heavy trucks and specialized snow, ice, and road repair equipment to preserve and assure the entire fleet of equipment is in safe operating condition following the rules and policies of the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Diagnoses, services and repairs of various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, ignition systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems. Vehicles and equipment include, but are not limited to, 10-ton tandem snowplows, tractor-trailers, bulldozers, motor graders, paving machines, 6X6 and 4X4 trucks, Snow blowers and mower tractors with mower decks tow behind and side arm. Perform scheduled fleet preventive maintenance on the Regions fleet. As well as training the patrol members. To include all oil changes, lubrication services and annual DOT inspections. This position will be required to travel to all of the sections patrol barn and boundaries. Work will be performed in both a shop and field environment. Under the supervision of the shop foreman this position will receive all scheduled services to be performed. All work will be accounted for on the correct issued work order type in SAP. This position will also inspect and resolve any AVL reporting issues. Inspect, repair, install components and ensure that the sections AVL reporting is functioning correctly.
