About The Position

Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic III, where your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient operation of our heavy-duty machinery. This senior-level role offers an exciting opportunity to apply advanced troubleshooting skills, perform major repairs, and lead maintenance efforts on critical equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy machinery. You will play a vital role in maintaining operational excellence while mentoring junior technicians and contributing to a safety-focused work environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing diesel equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
  • Working knowledge of equipment operation and associated operating systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment (ie. JPro, ET (Caterpillar), Insight (Cummins)).
  • Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced team members.
  • Proficient computer skills: knowledge of MS Office products, Fleet Management Systems, and E-mail.
  • Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residence required.
  • Ability to travel to company locations up to 50%.
  • Ability to support Production Leads in coordinating work and driving team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions in accordance with federal, state, local, and company safety policies and procedures always
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty machinery, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend machinery lifespan.
  • Utilize sophisticated diagnostic tools and computerized systems to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Lead and assist Level I and Level II Heavy Equipment Mechanics, providing guidance, training, and technical support.
  • Ensure all work complies with federal, state, local, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.
  • Assist in planning and prioritizing maintenance schedules to optimize equipment availability and performance.
  • Participate in safety meetings and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, hydraulic, and engine systems using computerized diagnostic tools.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and perform repairs utilizing standard (SAE) and metric hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments, and diagnostics equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on AC and electrical systems.
  • Perform welding and fabrication as needed to repair or modify equipment and components.
