Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, construction equipment, rental equipment, or related mechanic. Strong automotive diagnostic experience may also be considered.
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues, understand electrical flow and wiring, identify root causes, and complete repairs rather than simply replacing parts.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, wiring, and Tier 4 emissions systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to use multimeters, wiring schematics, manufacturer diagnostic software, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Basic understanding of CAN bus systems and computer controlled equipment, with a willingness to learn manufacturer specific diagnostic software and technology.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs while following manufacturer specifications.
  • Must have a basic mechanic's tool set necessary to perform repairs and diagnostics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to think critically, troubleshoot problems, and move quickly to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Team player with a positive and competitive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support the team and help wherever needed.
  • Ambitious and motivated to continue developing technical skills and take on more complex diagnostic and repair responsibilities.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced shop environment with approximately 45 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 50 hours when business needs require.
  • Must be willing to learn new equipment, technologies, manufacturer specific processes, and diagnostic systems.
  • Safety oriented with a commitment to following Sunstate and industry safety standards while performing equipment repairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge in electrical and hydraulic diagnostics and repair.
  • Heavy equipment experience is highly preferred, including equipment such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, skid steers, excavators, loaders, compressors, and other construction or rental equipment.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, wiring, and Tier 4 emissions systems.
