About The Position

Under supervision, performs journey level mechanical work repairing and maintaining medium and heavy trucks and construction equipment; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being ਗਈ conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience as a journey level mechanic specializing in heavy equipment, diesel engines and hydraulic systems; OR completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for repair of heavy equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained within six months of hire and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Basic mechanic's tools, including a toolbox, customarily used to perform the duties of this position are required at the time of appointment.
  • A Hazmat Endorsement is required to run a lube truck and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining heavy trucks, construction equipment, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, particularly with complex hydraulic, diesel engine, transmission, electrical, air brake, steering, suspension, and cooling systems.
  • A safety-focused and dependable approach.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work safely.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively around heavy equipment, oils, chemicals, dust, and other industrial hazards.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Capability and willingness to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of hire.
  • A collaborative and self-directed work style.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs journey level mechanical work repairing and maintaining medium and heavy trucks and construction equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and parts records.
  • Use computer systems and work orders.
  • Provide guidance or training to other mechanics as needed.
