Northern Star (Pogo) LLC is hiring an apprentice for its Pogo operation in Alaska. The role combines site-based work with attendance at classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks as part of the UAF Diesel/Heavy Equipment Program. The apprentice is a full-time Pogo Mine employee while attending courses and working on site. Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Leading Hand, the apprentice learns to repair and maintain mobile heavy equipment using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. The role supports maintenance activities and safe work practices while developing mechanical skills. The work environment can involve extreme and changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise and light levels, artificial lighting, and confined work areas. Camp facilities include dining service, a games room, exercise and weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms with landline phones, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The company provides bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction, and Tok, Alaska. Consideration is limited to candidates living in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, Delta, and Tok regions.
