Heavy Duty Mechanic with Service Truck (Syncrude Aurora)
About The Position
NACG is seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) with Service Truck (Partial or Direct Service Provider) to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area. This is an opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region. The role involves working at the Syncrude Aurora site on a 14 x 14 schedule with 12-hour days (paid for 11.5 hours), covering both days and nights. Accommodations are not provided, but a $15 Living Out Allowance per hour is offered. Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to the site. Overtime is provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week. Successful candidates will become members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman (Journeyperson) certification on large Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators.
- Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
- Capable of working with minimal supervision.

- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction.
- A valid Alberta Journeyperson Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off Road).
- Current CVIP and Picker Inspection.
- Oxygen/acetylene cabinets that meet OH&S requirements.
- Full complement of tools for repairing Off Road Equipment.
- $5 million liability insurance.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
- Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset.
Responsibilities
- Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
- Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
- Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
- Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Trouble shooting systems – example: hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
- Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
- Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
- Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
- Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
- Other maintenance duties as assigned.
