About The Position

Standard Bus Contracting is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join their maintenance team in Whitehorse, Yukon. The role involves ensuring the effective, efficient, and safe servicing of buses in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company policies.

Requirements

• Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic, Red Seal preferred
• 2 – 5 years of related work experience
• Valid driver’s license
• Must be willing to complete Yukon territorial licensing exam required to perform safety inspections (SAFTIs)
• Mechanical aptitude, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Strong time management and well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Computer proficiency
• Own hand tools
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Nice To Haves

• School bus and diesel repair experience considered an asset

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, examine and investigate to determine causes of defective operation of vehicle components with the use of computer diagnostic equipment
• Service and repair vehicles in the shop or on-road in the event of a breakdown
• Maintain, adjust, and/or repair all bus systems, components, and parts to ensure the operational fitness of vehicles
• Operate buses to diagnose component failure or move buses when required
• Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical maintenance
• Anticipate and troubleshoot breakdowns, list parts required and process orders
• Ensure accuracy of documentation for all records of service, repair, and other work
• Communicate with operations and supervisory staff on availability of equipment
• Uphold compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards, operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.

Benefits

• Competitive wages - $49.00 per hour
• Monday through Friday day shift (7:30 am to 4:00 pm), with the possibility of evenings and weekend OT shifts as required
• Relocation expenses covered up to $5,000 for those not local to the area
• $2,000 hiring bonus offered - receive $1,000 following probation and the remaining $1,000 after 6 months of continuous employment!
