About The Position

The Heavy Duty Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment, diagnoses mechanical issues, replaces components, maintains service records, and ensures a safe, clean work environment. Day Shift Available: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm. Performs mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including buses, trucks, excavators, and loaders. Inspects, repairs, and replaces components related to electrical, heating/air, engine cooling systems, and general wear items to ensure safe and efficient operation. Orders necessary parts, maintains accurate service records, schedules maintenance, and keeps the work area clean and safe. Performs tune-ups and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Degree from a college or trade school or 2+ years of related mechanical experience; a combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Knowledge of diesel/gas engines, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and drivability/emission systems; experience with Cummins and Freightliner a plus.
Valid NYS driver’s license required.
The ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

ASE certifications in bus/truck mechanics, brakes, and suspension preferred.
