About The Position

The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for the service, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction vehicles and equipment in both shop and field environments. This is a year-round position based out of the Anchorage shop facility. The role involves inspecting, diagnosing, ordering parts, and completing repairs on a variety of construction vehicles and equipment, including bulldozers, cranes, end dumps, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and miscellaneous non-mobile and light-duty equipment. Responsibilities include conducting diagnostic scans using automotive software, adjusting, repairing, and replacing various vehicle systems (engines, fuel, hydraulics, electrical, brakes, suspension, steering, transmissions), and performing routine maintenance such as lubrication and oil changes. The mechanic will operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose issues and ensure efficiency, communicate repair needs to the Shop Foreman/Superintendent, and complete field requisitions for parts and materials. Welding repairs may also be required. The position supports HSE processes and Haz-Req programs, requiring a commitment to safety and the ability to report safety concerns. Travel to remote locations and job sites is expected, with deployments potentially lasting over two weeks. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Exceptional time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations.
• Ability to work varying hours with overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
• Five (5) years’ related experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to work outside and/or a cold environment for long durations.
• Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with current medical card.

Nice To Haves

• Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License w/ HAZMAT Certification.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, order parts and complete repairs to construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, end dumps, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and miscellaneous non-mobile and light duty equipment.
• Conduct diagnostic scan and reporting using automotive software in completion of repairs and maintenance.
• Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
• Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
• Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
• Communicate needed repairs and level of action required to Shop Foreman / Superintendent.
• Complete field requisitions for materials and parts required for completion of repairs.
• Perform welding repairs as needed for completion of repairs.
• Support HSE processes and Haz-Req programs.
• Assume personal accountability and responsibility to ensure all tasks are performed safely.
• Present safety concerns to Leadership’s attention.
• Travel to/from remote locations and job sites as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
