About The Position

The Heavy Duty Mechanic plays a key role in keeping IREN’s AI and high-performance computing operations running safely and reliably. Based in British Columbia, this position maintains mission-critical mechanical infrastructure, including large diesel generators, cooling systems, pumps, and auxiliary equipment that support continuous data centre uptime. This is a strong opportunity for a Heavy Duty Mechanic who enjoys complex, hands-on troubleshooting in an industrial environment and wants to apply their experience to advanced computing infrastructure. Candidates with backgrounds in mining, rail, forestry, marine, industrial power generation, or heavy equipment maintenance are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  • Experience maintaining locomotive engines, power generation equipment, mining equipment, industrial power systems, or heavy mobile equipment will be considered highly relevant.
  • Experience maintaining diesel generators or large-scale mechanical infrastructure is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with and upholding WorkSafeBC and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Safety tickets, such as AWP, fall arrest, or confined space, are considered assets.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems is considered an asset.
  • CAT, MTU, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Baudouin Engines.
  • Standby power systems and power generation equipment.
  • Data centre or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Mining, forestry, marine, or other heavy industrial equipment.
  • SCADA and monitoring systems.
  • Computerized maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and promote company safety policies, including energy isolation and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, including diesel generators, exhaust fans, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on critical mechanical infrastructure to support system performance and uptime.
  • Maintain and support standby diesel generator systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues, complete root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Monitor and operate mechanical systems to support efficient and reliable operation.
  • Document activities accurately, including work orders, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of new mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with electrical, operations, and engineering teams to support site objectives.
