About The Position

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic for their Cadomin Quarry in Alberta. This role involves the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy mobile equipment such as loaders and haul trucks, as well as stationary equipment like conveyors and crushers. The position requires diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, and collaborating with operations teams to maintain equipment availability in both surface and underground environments. The role operates in demanding conditions including moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and elevated noise levels, with significant time spent in an underground mining environment that includes confined spaces, low-light conditions, and uneven terrain, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.

Requirements

Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification with strong equipment repair capability
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and hydraulic issues
Working knowledge of mobile and stationary equipment systems, including crushing and conveying
Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship
Ability to adapt and perform effectively in a fast-paced industrial and underground environment
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination and background check.

Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy mobile equipment including loaders, haul trucks, and support equipment
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues efficiently
Perform maintenance and repairs on stationary equipment such as conveyors, crushers, and processing systems
Complete preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime
Collaborate with operations teams to ensure equipment availability in both surface and underground operations
