About The Position

Finning is looking for a dedicated 2nd year Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Caterpillar products in a service-oriented environment. This role is based at the Fort McMurray Town Shop facility and operates on a 7x7 continuous shift rotation. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, a team player, self-motivated, autonomous, detail-oriented, and has begun their Heavy Equipment Technician certification.

Requirements

• Must be a 2nd year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice
• Willing to work towards Heavy Equipment Technician Certification
• Successfully meet Finning’s educational and testing prerequisites
• Completion of grade 12 (not including a general equivalent diploma)
• Meet the requirements of article 5.02 of the Alberta Collective Agreement
• Highly motivated and safety focused
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Previous Caterpillar experience and basic computer skills
• Mechanical aptitude with a basic understanding of heavy equipment parts and repairs
• Must become a member of the Union associated with this position

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair Caterpillar equipment
• Assist with a variety of field repairs and diagnostics
• Utilize Caterpillar SIS and ET daily
• Complete technical documentation (service reports, warranty, crossover notes)
• Interact with customers, sales support, and the Finning team
• Work with the Service Supervisor and Leadhand on various tasks
