About The Position

West Point Contractors is hiring an experienced Heavy Civil Superintendent to lead field operations on an FAA underground utilities and airfield infrastructure project in Palmdale, California. The role focuses on heavy civil work—not vertical construction—including underground wet utility demolition and installation, sitework, aggregate base placement, and asphalt paving. Federal construction experience is required, and substantial underground utility and paving experience is essential. Experience with FAA, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, or other federal agencies is highly preferred, as is experience with airfields, runways, taxiways, control towers, or aviation infrastructure. The Superintendent oversees construction activities to meet design, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and contractual requirements. The role coordinates field supervisors, subcontractors, trades, resources, inspections, testing, and government and project stakeholders. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain access to federal installations. The position is full-time and not remote; relocation assistance is not anticipated. Requirements

At least 7 years supervising heavy civil construction projects.
Demonstrated experience directing underground wet utility demolition and installation, including water, sewer, and storm drain work.
Proven experience with trenching, excavation, utility installation, aggregate base, grading, compaction, and asphalt paving.
Experience coordinating materials testing, surveying, and utility inspections.
Experience managing multiple subcontractors while maintaining the project schedule.
Federal construction experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain access to federal installations and project sites.
High school diploma or equivalent.
OSHA 10-hour certification.
Thorough knowledge of construction methods, equipment, materials, company policies, procedures, and union agreements.
Experience managing projects ranging from $5 million to $12 million in a firm fixed-price environment.
Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills.
Time-management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work on multiple projects.
Flexible, self-motivated, and professional approach.
Meticulous reporting and ability to meet submission deadlines.
Experience using BuilderTrend or similar construction management software.
Must be able to meet federal project-site access requirements, which may include background checks, fingerprinting, proof of citizenship, declarations for federal employment, tuberculosis testing, and credit checks.

Responsibilities

Supervise functional construction efforts to ensure projects are built in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
Plan, coordinate, supervise, and manage resources to meet project objectives.
Direct field supervisors and subcontractors to support productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance.
Assist the project team with scheduling and developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, and standards.
Coordinate with on-site work teams, including subcontractors, to resolve problems and achieve quality, safety, and schedule objectives.
Review shop drawings and prepare submittals for conformance with project specifications; maintain an accurate submittal register for each task order.
Coordinate, supervise, and manage on-site trades personnel and subcontractor work.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and corporate safety initiatives.
Supervise underground wet utility demolition and installation, utility trenching, excavation, shoring, backfill, and compaction.
Oversee site grading, earthwork, aggregate base placement and testing, and asphalt paving operations and quality control.
Coordinate utility testing and inspections, materials testing, and surveying.
Manage subcontractors performing underground civil work and maintain the project schedule.
Coordinate daily with owners, engineers, testing agencies, and government representatives.
Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Provide detailed application information about major federal projects, including contractor, agency, contract amount, and work summary.
