About The Position

The Heavy Civil Project Manager provides overall leadership and direction for one or more heavy civil and/or bridge construction projects. This role is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and managing construction and financial activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards. The Project Manager is directly responsible for overall project profitability and loss management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Heavy civil and/or bridge construction experience required.
  • Experience in construction management, finance, design, scheduling, and project management.
  • Experience managing project budgets, purchasing, pricing, negotiations, and purchase orders.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project documents.
  • Experience developing subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Procore, and related construction management software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety, quality, and professional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Superintendent, Assistant Project Manager, or Project Manager is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan project activities and procure materials and equipment in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings and promote a safety-first culture among field teams and crews.
  • Identify, address, investigate, and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
  • Implement corrective measures to maintain a jobsite.
  • Comply with all applicable fleet driving policies and safety standards.
  • Establish and manage project budgets based on estimates and coordination with the estimating team.
  • Oversee procurement of labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Manage financial contracts, including invoice review and approval, billing, subcontractor and vendor payments, gross margin reporting, and cash flow.
  • Monitor project costs and coordinate resources to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Review submittits, RFIs, and related project documentation.
  • Complete subcontract agreements and purchase orders during the buyout process.
  • Obtain required permits and ensure appropriate project documentation.
  • Develop, update, and manage project schedules in collaboration with General and Site Superintendents.
  • Create work plans and coordinate responsibilities with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress, quality control, schedule performance, and budget requirements.
  • Develop subcontractor and purchase order scopes of work.
  • Coordinate all project closeout activities.
  • Develop project work plans and staffing requirements for each project phase.
  • Participate in owner, subcontractor, engineer, and project team meetings.
  • Maintain strong communication with owners and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coach, mentor, train, and provide ongoing feedback to project personnel.
  • Conduct thorough performance reviews for Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers and establish SMART goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, and field crews.
  • Identify project challenges and proactively implement effective solutions.
  • Promote continuous improvement and maintain high professional and ethical standards.
