About The Position

Steel Tool & Engineering Co. is a leading manufacturer in the aerospace sector, AS9100 certified and NADCAP accredited. We are seeking a full-time Heat Treating Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Trenton, MI. This role offers a consistent Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm schedule, focusing on process excellence and quality. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and metallurgical requirements

  • Experience with heat-treat operations in aerospace or precision manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Developing, optimizing, and maintaining heat-treat processes including hardening, tempering, annealing, carburizing, and stress relieving.
  • Creating and updating process documentation, work instructions, and heat-treat recipes.
  • Monitoring furnace performance, temperature uniformity, and equipment calibration to meet AMS, NADCAP, and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshooting heat-treat issues such as distortion, hardness variation, microstructure deviations, and quench performance.
  • Supporting metallurgical testing, hardness checks, and microstructure evaluations.
  • Leading root-cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconformances.
  • Collaborating with Quality, Production, and Maintenance to ensure consistent process control.
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting with NADCAP audits and compliance documentation.
  • Supporting new product launches by developing heat-treat process flows for new parts.
