About The Position

The Heating and Air Conditioning Technician II diagnoses, maintains, and repairs all types of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and related equipment. The position has no supervisory duties or responsibilities and receives moderate supervision from a technical superior.

Employees work on a 24-hour on-call basis. Work takes place in boiler rooms or other confined areas, with potential exposure to boiler explosions, noise pollution, and toxic materials. The work requires moderate physical exertion, including lifting heavy air conditioning units.

Requirements

• High school graduation or a GED certificate, with permitted experience or coursework substitutions as described in the posting.
• Three years of experience maintaining and repairing heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, with permitted coursework or apprenticeship substitutions as described in the posting.
• Upon hire, an EPA-approved C.F.C. Certificate of Completion as a Technician Type I or Type II is required.
• A valid Maryland Class C non-commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management; provisional licenses are not accepted.
• Knowledge of hot water and steam plants; air atomizing and rotary type burners; absorption, centrifugal, and reciprocating chilling plants; pneumatic temperature control systems; and safety practices for maintaining and repairing heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and engineering specifications.
• Ability to lift objects weighing 75–100 pounds.
• Employees must provide some of their own tools.
• Candidates under final consideration for positions identified as positions of trust must successfully complete the required criminal background check and/or fingerprinting.
• Selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
