About The Position
This position presides over all hearings for inmate disciplinary reports, receives and processes all forms related to disciplinary actions, and monitors the penalty offer process. The Hearing Officer will oversee, implement, and administer all procedures related to disciplinary hearings and inmate disciplinary actions. This role contributes to promoting positive inmate behavior by assigning consequences to negative behavior and provides staff with an avenue for proper inmate management. The position requires maintaining compliance with Department policy and Division and Institutional operating procedures.
Requirements
- Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information and/or evidence to conduct a fair and impartial hearing.
- Demonstrated ability to make a sound and impartial finding of guilt or innocence and to explain charges, rules, and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize data and conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner and to document results of the disciplinary hearings.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to train staff and inmates in the application of disciplinary process.
