About The Position

Maintains the day-to-day operations of the Healthy Living Centers. This includes conducting exercise classes both in person and online; providing orientation to participants on the use of exercise equipment; coordinating wellness education classes as well as other monthly special events. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an associate’s degree in Wellness, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field, along with at least two years of experience working in a wellness or fitness center environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices are essential. Experience conducting one‑on‑one wellness assessments, developing individualized workout plans, and a working knowledge of proper nutrition are highly desirable. The candidate should also be capable of developing curriculum for classes focused on healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise habits, and other health‑related topics, as well as leading exercise classes and wellness education sessions. This position is primarily based at the Plant City Community Resource Center, with additional responsibilities at the Lee Davis Community Resource Center, SouthShore Community Resource Center, and Wimauma Healthy Living–Suncoast Community Health Centers. Regular travel to all sites will be required for class instruction, vacation coverage, training, and other operational needs whenever necessary. The program hosts monthly open houses, and the selected candidate will be required to work one Saturday per month; overtime pay will be provided. It is extremely beneficial that this individual speak Spanish, however, not mandatory.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree; and
  • Two (2) years of experience in the health and wellness field; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted; and
  • Possession of American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Group Exercise Instructor (GEI) Certification or ability to obtain it within the first year of employment; and
  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support, AED, and First Aid Certifications; and
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
  • Working knowledge of agency procedures and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of office policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to evaluate member's information to determine course of action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer to enter data quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain active working relationships within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and adjust accordingly.
  • Ability to obtain 15 hours of continuing education credits annually.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors Healthy Living Program participants to ensure they use fitness equipment and perform exercise safely and correctly.
  • Facilitates member orientation upon initial participant enrollment. This includes explaining emergency protocols and any other information necessary to ensure complete understanding of rules and operations for members safety and enjoyment.
  • Ensures that facility signage, equipment layout, and design are properly maintained; cleaning and disinfecting schedules are adhered to; environmental controls are monitored/maintained; ADA guidelines are followed, etc.
  • Performs daily cleaning and wipe down of strength and cardiovascular equipment. Ensures that all maintenance tasks are completed on a weekly and monthly basis (extra cleaning). Confirms quarterly maintenance is completed by FitRev when scheduled.
  • Provides wellness assessments consisting of the following to determine participant success and attainment of goals: Biometric measurements (BP, RHR, Body Comp) and health behavior screening. Uses this information to educate member and refers to other health disciplines, as necessary.
  • Develops an exercise/workout program for each Healthy Living participant. Re-evaluates members on a periodic basis (6-12 weeks) to measure success.
  • Interacts with community partners to develop and implement classes on exercise, nutrition, and other health related topics, and recruits participants for those classes from Healthy Living Program participants. This involves, but is not limited to, researching, and developing contacts and coordinating monthly health education classes for Healthy Living Centers; developing health education curriculum and instructing health education classes at the Healthy Living Centers; and conducting communication outreach events with the Health Care Services Outreach team.
  • Pulls all provider referrals from ACES and contacts plan members to set-up appropriate consultations.
  • Develops and conducts quarterly member activity incentive challenges. This includes creating the incentive challenge, developing all related programming and materials, and including additional targeted biometric and health behavior screenings.
  • Instructs group fitness classes to include, but not limited to, basic step, toning, yoga, boot camp, Pilates, etc.
  • Inputs participant information into database to track progress toward goals set during the pre- and post-assessments. Uses database to create monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on program utilization and participant progress.
  • Coordinates quarterly open house/health fairs at the Healthy Living Fitness Centers (one at each facility monthly). This includes researching and contacting local community partners for vendor participation; community outreach to promote the events; planning and coordination of activities for the day of the events; and attending all monthly open house events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
