About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) supports licensed nursing staff and performs activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. The role facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees, and serves as a public relations liaison for the unit. The HCT works under the direct supervision of the nursing manager and works closely with nursing to provide care for critical adult and pediatric patients.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days.
Meet at least one of the following work-experience qualifications: successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program; relevant medical military training; completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); at least one semester of nursing clinical experience; or work as a CNA within the past 24 months.

Responsibilities

Maintain unit supplies and support unit function, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and preparing charts.
Collect data on assigned patients as directed by an RN and ensure accurate documentation.
Demonstrate competency in selected psychomotor skills, including measuring vital signs, monitoring blood glucose, and measuring and recording intake and output.
Perform or assist patients with activities of daily living.
Prepare patients for transportation and/or transport them.
Work closely with nursing to support high-quality care for critical adult and pediatric patients.
Assist with communication by updating white boards and conducting meaningful hourly rounding.
Float within the hospital to perform duties as needed.
Serve as a sitter for patients when needed.
Assist with setting up bedside procedures, such as bronch-trach procedures.
