About The Position

The Healthcare Simulation Role Player (Actor) is a professional actor who assists with the conduct of training activities by serving as a simulated patient or other relevant role. The Healthcare Simulation Role Player (Actor) gives trainees an opportunity for experiential learning, by helping them practice communication techniques, navigate sensitive conversations, and more, in a simulated interaction. These structured exercises provide participants with opportunities to practice communication techniques, build confidence, and enhance their ability to navigate sensitive conversations in a supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Professional acting experience required

Nice To Haves

  • experience in medical or standardized patient acting is highly preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Portray patients and healthcare providers in simulated clinical interactions in a realistic, consistent, and emotionally authentic manner.
  • Collaborate in role-play scenarios conducted in small group settings, and provide feedback to caregivers.
  • Review and internalize provided clinical case materials, including disease history, participant biography, prior to each session.
  • Participate in improvisational role plays with an emphasis on emotional accuracy and clinical realism.
  • Receive training from faculty to ensure accurate and sensitive portrayals.
  • Provide feedback when appropriate and participate in program evaluations.
  • Maintain standardized, repeatable portrayals across multiple sessions and participant groups to ensure a consistent and equitable learning experience.
  • Foster a safe, respectful learning environment when enacting emotionally sensitive topics such as cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and end-of-life discussions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of case materials, participant information, and session content in accordance with program and institutional policies.
  • Practice appropriate de-roling and self-care strategies to sustain emotional wellbeing when portraying distressing scenarios.
  • Communicate promptly with program staff regarding scheduling, availability, and any concerns arising during sessions.
