About The Position

Commissionaires South Saskatchewan is hiring Healthcare Security Officers to work inside hospitals alongside nurses, physicians, and clinical teams. This role is embedded in a healthcare environment where decisions directly affect patient safety, staff wellbeing, and hospital function. It is suitable for individuals starting their career, changing direction, or bringing experience from policing, healthcare, or emergency services.

Requirements

  • Valid Saskatchewan Security Guard Licence (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Ability to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Scan
  • Ability to pass a physical abilities test

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one patient watch for high-risk individuals.
  • Observe and monitor patients, reporting behavioural changes to clinical staff.
  • Locate and assist missing or wandering patients.
  • Maintain accurate patient census information.
  • Support Safe Walk and Safe Drive programs.
  • Provide officer presence and assistance for special duty assignments.
  • Respond to Code White and emergency assistance calls.
  • De-escalate violent, aggressive, or emotionally distressed individuals.
  • Physically intervene and restrain combative patients when required and authorized.
  • Provide back-up assistance to police, protective services, and other first responders.
  • Patrol hospital grounds and buildings to deter theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor security cameras and observe for suspicious activity.
  • Secure entrances, offices, restricted areas, and lock-up areas.
  • Ensure safety of hospital and outlying buildings.
  • Manage key control procedures and lock/unlock schedules.
  • Enforce parking regulations and control.
  • Conduct daily and pre-landing inspections of heliport.
  • Respond to all emergencies across the facility.
  • Apprehend and detain individuals where authorized.
  • Remove, document, and catalogue contraband and dangerous weapons.
  • Escort individuals off hospital property when required.
  • Report incidents to police, agency, and/or department as required.
  • Call emergency codes and support the hospital Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Assist with morgue intake and release procedures.
  • Complete maintenance requisitions.
  • Issue parking passes, tickets, lockers, and keys.
  • Monitor fire systems and inspect fire equipment.
  • Manage lost and found property and maintain documentation.
  • Complete detailed incident reports and patient activity logs.
  • Submit daily activity logs as required.
  • Liaise with police, fire, EMS, and community partners.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with clinical teams through continuous collaboration.
  • Perform photo identification checks.
  • Work with SHA to review and implement coroner recommendations when applicable.
  • Familiarize and orient new officers to the work environment and processes.
