About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking a Healthcare Operations Fellow for a structured 6-12 month fellowship. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of healthcare administration and prepare the fellow for leadership roles in ambulatory care. The fellowship is a result of a strategic initiative to expand healthcare sites and locations. Project work will encompass areas such as finance, employee relations, clinical quality, reporting, data analysis, regulatory compliance, and infection control. The fellowship includes practical experience through deployment to clinical sites and assignments of group and individual projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, Non-Profit Management or other related discipline required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Successful track record of leading and driving positive change through others.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals; ability to prioritize and complete time-sensitive assignments.
  • Experience/interest working with diverse populations; Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
  • Interest in nonprofit management, community development and healthcare administration.
  • Interest in the issues of equal access to healthcare by those considered underinsured/uninsured.
  • Possess a social consciousness demonstrated by previous volunteer or paid employment in a mission-centered company.
  • Creative and flexible.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job.
  • Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency.
  • Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

  • Learns and demonstrates an understanding of programs, services, and populations served; demonstrates skills in managing a variety of clinic operations and service lines.
  • Learns and demonstrates knowledge of healthcare administration; demonstrates skills to strategically and tactically promote community engagement while balancing the demands of government relations and regulations.
  • Understands the regulatory environment of a community healthcare organization.
  • Learns and demonstrates knowledge of healthcare finance and fiscal management; demonstrates skills required to effectively manage profit and loss and ensure attainment of projected net gain.
  • Learns and demonstrates an understanding of LEAN and process improvement programs; demonstrates skills in leading and driving positive change through LEAN methodology.
  • Learns and demonstrates knowledge of supervisory practices; demonstrates skills required to effectively supervise a team.
