About The Position

UW Medical Center - Montlake's Emergency Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Health Unit Coordinator. This position is part-time, working 60% FTE on Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. It is an on-site role with no telework. The Health Unit Coordinator will thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment, providing efficient communication, responding to inquiries, assisting in maintaining a welcoming unit, and working closely with the charge RN to manage patient flow and coordinate care. Responsibilities include preparing discharge packets, coordinating transportation, handling unit paperwork, maintaining supply inventory, and utilizing computer systems like Epic, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook. The role emphasizes partnering with the care team to prioritize patient satisfaction and exceptional care delivery.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience OR An equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide staff, providers, and patients with an efficient system of internal and external communications, including answering phones and triaging call lights.
  • Respond to patient and family inquiries in a timely, courteous, and accurate manner.
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming and organized unit environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Work closely with the charge RN to help manage patient flow, prioritize unit needs, and coordinate admits, transfers, and discharges.
  • Prepare and compile discharge packets to support timely and safe patient discharges.
  • Coordinate transportation and appropriate paperwork for patient transfers and diagnostic testing.
  • Handle unit paperwork, including patient chart maintenance, consent forms, and other documentation.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and restock as needed.
  • Utilize computer systems such as Epic, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for communication, documentation, and coordination.
  • Partner with all members of the care team to prioritize patient satisfaction and exceptional care delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
