The 2100 Clinical Decision Unit is a fast-paced Acute Care Medical Unit that treats patients with a wide range of medical diagnoses, from general pain to complex conditions involving various body systems. As a Health Unit Clerk (HUC) on this team, you will greet newly admitted and transferred patients, helping facilitate a healing and supportive environment. You will coordinate communication between visitors, families and healthcare staff to enhance unit functioning and organization. Your role is vital in enhancing the patient’s experience and ensuring operational efficiency. In this role, you can also explore professional development opportunities to further develop your skills, advance to higher positions or seek additional education.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role
  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework
  • Successfully complete/pass all mandated programs as required by policy and competencies/skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties.
  • Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
  • Respond to patient call lights in a manner that expedites appropriate follow-through as needed.
  • Make rounds on patients throughout their hospital stay.
  • Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Troubleshoot equipment such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
  • Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
  • Complete mandatory education and training.
